One of the people shot during Monday’s street protests by National Super Alliance is under police guard at Kenyatta National Hospital.

He was shot in the right hand. A police report said Arthur Jackton Alava, together with three other men, robbed a pedestrian near Laico Regency hotel during the street demonstrations on Uhuru Highway.

The others identified as Renson Alulu Lihondo, Hesbon Omollo Onyango and Brian Otieno Ouma were locked up at the Central police station.

Police said one of the officers was forced to shoot because the fleeing men had refused orders to surrender after they were intercepted.

A second man was shot by a police officer as he ran away after snatching a mobile phone from a motorists during the demonstrations, also on Uhuru Highway.

The motorist Mr George Githimu Muriuki, hit one of the protesters as he sped off from the scene. He reported the matter at the Central Police
Station.

Police said the motorist’s phone was recovered after shooting the aggressor in the knee.

Officers at the scene said they also sped off after the crowd became rowdy and threatened to torch their vehicle.
