President Uhuru Kenyatta has invited NASA leader Raila Odinga to work with his administration so they can spur development.

Uhuru, who will be sworn-in on Tuesday, said it is time for politicians to allow Kenyans to continue with nation building.

He lashed out at political analysts hosted on TV, saying they have turned him away from stations and newspapers.

“We now need to start working. Kenyans will not feed on politics. Kenyans want ugali on the table and services. These are the crucial things.”

Uhuru Kenyatta begs Raila Odinga to work together with his administration He said this during the ground-breaking of the Sh20 billion Thiba Dam in Kirinyaga county. He was with DP William Ruto and Governor Anne Waiguru.

Upon completion in the next three years, the dam will supply water to rice farmers in what the head of state said will improve crop production within the area.

The dam, set to increase rice growing season to two beyond the current July-December, is also envisioned to increase the number of households with access to clean water.

The President said his administration will embark on unifying the country as he has only four years in office, after which Ruto will compete with the opposition in 2022.

We cannot achieve development with tribalism and politics all the time. Allow me to work for five years and then go,” he said.

Uhuru further said food security will be his top agenda during his second term as “there is no reason for Kenyans to sleep hungry”.

We should not wait until there is drought or food shortage to start importing. With the 57 dams being constructed countrywide, we should be able to feed our people,” he said.

Ruto left the gathering at the ceremony in stitches after he said they chose to hold the first public function in Kirinyaga since it is “close to God”.

“It is regrettable that some leaders in the country do not believe in God.” Water CS Eugene Wamalwa said the dam will double rice production in Kenya from the current 80,000 metric tonnes to 160,000.
